Why Was The Yogurt Recall Issued?
September 5, 2013 – Chobani Inc., one of the country’s largest Greek yogurt producers, is now recalling nearly 100 types of yogurt manufactured at its plant in Twin Falls, Idaho. According to a company statement:
“This type of mold is common in the dairy environment, particularly when using only natural ingredients that are absent of artificial preservatives … Over the past few days, with the help of our retail partners, we proactively withdrew product from store shelves.”
According to an announcement issued by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), Chobani issued the recall after it received numerous complaints of its yogurt cups ‘bloating and swelling.’ The recall was issued about 1 week after the company began asking retailers to pull its yogurt off their shelves.
